Why DustFox has no weekly plan

A cleaner is used in bursts and runs no servers, so it should not charge by the week. Why Pro is sold once or by the year, and what the free version keeps.

DustFox is free to download, and DustFox Pro comes two ways: bought once, or by the year. There is no weekly plan, and the Yearly plan’s free trial is short and stated up front. Here is why.

A cleaner is used in bursts

Nobody cleans their photo library every week. People open a storage cleaner when the phone says it is full, spend an evening on it, and forget about it for months. Charging every week for something used a few times a year is a bad deal for the person paying, and a plan that renews in the months you do not use it is the part people resent most.

That is why Pro Lifetime comes first. You pay once ($19.99 on the US App Store), it never renews, and there is nothing to cancel.

Why there is a yearly plan at all

Not everyone wants to pay the full price up front. Pro Yearly ($9.99 a year) unlocks exactly the same Pro for a smaller payment, which suits someone who cleans a couple of times a year and would rather decide again next year. It renews once a year, the price is shown before you buy, and you can cancel it anytime in Settings. New subscribers start with a 3-day free trial; cancel at least 24 hours before it ends and you pay nothing. If you expect to keep DustFox for more than two years, Lifetime costs less.

There is nothing on a server to pay for

Subscriptions often pay for ongoing costs: servers, storage, processing in the cloud. DustFox has none of these. Every scan, comparison and compression runs on your iPhone or iPad, and the network is used only to buy, restore and check Pro through Apple and RevenueCat, and to send anonymous usage statistics. The app you buy is the whole product, which is why a one-time price works at all.

The category needs a different example

Storage cleaners have a reputation: alarming warnings, trials that turn into weekly charges, paywalls in front of the first result. DustFox tries to be the opposite. It tells you that deleted photos wait 30 days in Recently Deleted, that space only returns once that album is emptied, and exactly what Pro would free on your library before you pay.

What the free version keeps

  • Screenshots are always unlimited.
  • Deletion methods share an allowance of 30 items, and conversion methods a separate 5, over the lifetime of the installation.
  • Scanning, the goal plan and the Gallery Report Card work without Pro.

What you get with Pro

Every limit removed, on every device signed in with your Apple Account, and for your Family Sharing group, whichever plan you choose. Apple sets the price for each country. See pricing for the details.

Questions and answers

Do I have to subscribe to use Pro?

No. Pro Lifetime is a one-time purchase that never renews. Pro Yearly is there for anyone who prefers a smaller payment per year, and both unlock exactly the same Pro.

Can I try everything before paying?

Scanning, the goal plan and the report card are free, so you can see exactly what Pro would free before you buy. Screenshots are always unlimited, and every method can be tried within the free allowance. Pro Yearly also starts with a 3-day free trial.
