Copies and near-identical shots

Groups identical and similar frames with DCT fingerprints. A jury of measures (sharpness, exposure, resolution, file size) picks the keeper, and you can see how the vote went. Favorites and shots iOS won't let you delete are never suggested.

A Live Photo keeps about three seconds of video next to the still. DustFox saves the still as a regular photo and drops the motion. The original goes to Recently Deleted.

Free space, keep the quality

Your iPhone encodes in real time while recording, so it deliberately uses a high bitrate. DustFox re-encodes the same frames with HEVC, unhurried: same resolution, same smoothness, often about half the space. Videos that are already efficient are skipped.

Say “I need 5 GB” and DustFox builds the plan that gets there with the least regret: exact copies and burst extras first, then old screenshots, lossless conversions last. Every step can be switched off, and iOS asks once to confirm all deletions.

The first scan gives your gallery a title, like “Screenshot Collector” or “Group Chat Veteran”, and a card to share. It carries only numbers, never a photo.

No memory is lost by accident

Everything DustFox deletes goes to the Recently Deleted album in Apple Photos and waits there for 30 days. The app also says the part most cleaners leave out: device space is only reclaimed once that album is emptied.

  • Nothing is deleted until you confirm in the iOS dialog.
  • Favorites and shots iOS protects are never suggested.
  • Converted items keep a new copy; the original waits in Recently Deleted.

It works with what is actually on the device

If you use iCloud Photos, shots that live in the cloud take no device space. By default DustFox lists only frames whose original is on this device, the only ones that truly free space. Flip the iCloud switch to see the whole library.

Your photos never leave your iPhone

Every scan, comparison and compression runs on the device, and scanning works in airplane mode. There is no account, no advertising and no tracking. Apart from Pro purchases, which Apple processes and RevenueCat verifies, the only thing sent is anonymous usage statistics, and you can turn them off.

Questions people ask first

Is DustFox a subscription?

Only if you want it to be. DustFox is free to download, and Pro comes two ways: a one-time Lifetime purchase ($19.99 on the US App Store) that never renews, or a Yearly subscription ($9.99 a year) that you can cancel anytime in Settings. The Yearly plan starts with a 3-day free trial: cancel at least 24 hours before it ends and you pay nothing. There is no weekly plan.

Does DustFox upload my photos?

No. Every scan, comparison and compression runs on your device, and scanning works in airplane mode, so your photos never leave it. The network is used to buy, restore and check Pro through Apple's StoreKit and RevenueCat, and to send anonymous usage statistics, which you can turn off in Settings.

I deleted photos. Why didn't my storage change?

Deleted items move to the Recently Deleted album in Apple Photos and stay there for 30 days, so the space is not free yet. It comes back when that album is emptied, either by you or automatically after 30 days.

How is this different from the Duplicates album in Photos?

The Duplicates album in Photos finds exact copies. DustFox also groups near-identical shots, such as bursts and the five takes of the same pose, and picks the best one to keep by sharpness, exposure, resolution and file size. It also shrinks videos and finds blurry shots, which Photos doesn't.
