DustFox

Ten ways to free photo storage on iPhone and iPad

DustFox has ten methods. Three of them free space without deleting anything; the other seven find what is safe to delete. Every one runs on the device.

Methods that free space without deleting

The photo or video stays in your library. The file gets smaller.

Live Photos

Drop the motion, keep the frame

A Live Photo keeps about three seconds of video next to the still. DustFox saves the still as a regular photo and drops the motion. The original goes to Recently Deleted.

Shrink Videos

Free space, keep the quality

Your iPhone encodes in real time while recording, so it deliberately uses a high bitrate. DustFox re-encodes the same frames with HEVC, unhurried: same resolution, same smoothness, often about half the space. Videos that are already efficient are skipped.

Compressible Photos

Same shot, less space

JPEG stores the same shot in roughly twice the space HEIC needs. DustFox converts it to HEIC; the difference is very hard to see. The card shows an estimate, and the real gain is measured after the conversion.

Methods that find what to delete

Everything deleted waits 30 days in Recently Deleted, so a wrong swipe is never final.

Duplicate Photos

Copies and near-identical shots

Groups identical and similar frames with DCT fingerprints. A jury of measures (sharpness, exposure, resolution, file size) picks the keeper, and you can see how the vote went. Favorites and shots iOS won't let you delete are never suggested.

Swipe to Clean

Swipe, decide, move on

One shot at a time: swipe left to delete, right to keep. A shot you keep is never shown again, so every session starts where the last one stopped.

Sent to You

WhatsApp and downloads

Images and videos that arrived from WhatsApp, Telegram and downloads, kept apart from your own photos. When the same image came in more than once, one tap selects the extras. Filter by source and by month.

Screenshots

The screen captures that piled up

Boarding passes from last year, a map you needed once, a meme you already sent. Screenshots are always unlimited in the free version.

Large Videos

The biggest space eaters

Every video sorted by size, largest first, so the first few decisions free the most space.

Blurry Shots

Photos that aren't sharp

Out of focus or shaken. DustFox measures sharpness on the device and lists the frames that fall short, so you can decide in one pass.

Heavy image files

RAW files, panoramas and other heavy images, largest first. They are rarely many, but they are rarely small.

Goal plan

Pick a goal, such as 5 GB or “Everything”, and DustFox builds the plan with the least regret. The order is fixed on purpose: byte-identical copies and burst extras first, then old screenshots, then lossless conversions. Every step is listed with its size and can be switched off. Conversions run first; then iOS asks once to confirm every deletion.

Gallery Report Card

Your first scan earns your gallery one of seven titles and a card to share. The card holds only numbers: counts, sizes and the space that can be freed. Sent to You adds a Group Bill, a receipt for everything your chats sent you. New card themes unlock as you free space.

Widget and weekly digest

The Home Screen and Lock Screen widget shows free space and what DustFox can free; a tap opens the goal plan. If you turn it on, a weekly notification tells you in one sentence how many screenshots and received images piled up, and only when something did. It is scheduled on the device: no push server.

Deleting is never a surprise

Deleted items move to Recently Deleted in Apple Photos and stay there for 30 days. DustFox cannot empty that album, and says so: its Empty buttons show a short guide and open Photos. When the space is back, DustFox confirms it.

Give your library a quiet afternoon.
