Frees space without deleting
Photos that arrived as JPEG, or were shot before HEIC, often take twice the room they need. DustFox converts them to HEIC on the device.

HEIC is the format iPhones have used for photos by default for years. It stores the same shot in roughly half the space of JPEG. Photos that came from other cameras, from chats or from older phones are often still JPEG.
It converts the listed photos to HEIC on the device. The figure on the card is an estimate; the real gain is measured after the conversion and shown to you. Photos that are already HEIC or already efficiently compressed are not listed.
No, and DustFox does not pretend it is. Re-encoding leaves a difference that is very hard to see, but it is there. For photos you care about at full fidelity, such as scans you might print large, skip them.
The new copy does not stay in the albums the original was in, and on an edited photo the “Revert to Original” option is gone. The original waits 30 days in Recently Deleted.
Re-encoding leaves a difference that is very hard to see with the naked eye, but it is a difference all the same. That is why DustFox lists the conversion as a choice, not a default.
Photos that are not HEIC already and would shrink meaningfully. If your library is already stored as HEIC, the list stays empty.
The HEIC copy is added to your library and the original moves to Recently Deleted, where it can be recovered for 30 days.
